In general, we recommend a “minimalist” WordPress plugin strategy: only use plugins that provide necessary functionality — and only use plugins that you’ve properly vetted.
That said, there are a number of wonderful (and very effective) plugins available that do a great job of providing specific functionality that can make your WordPress site(s) run better and/or be more user-friendly.
Here at Synthesis, we install three “must-use” plugins on every site we host. These plugins — which we developed — are:
- Synthesis Plugin Monitor
- Synthesis Security
- Synthesis System Message
You do have to be a Synthesis customer to take advantage of these plugins.
The following are a handful of other plugins we recommend for general functionality, making the most of your WordPress site for yourself and your audience:
- Scribe for SEO
- Premise
- Akismet
- JetPack by WordPress
- WordPress SEO by Yoast (also includes a good sitemap function)
- SnippetVault
- W3 Total Cache
- Google Analytics for WordPress
- Lijit Search
If you have questions about specific plugins, or if you’d like a plugin recommendation for a more specialized functionality, feel free to log in to your Synthesis customer portal and submit a ticket. As always, we’ll get right back to you …
